Updating the "professional" iPhone line in 2025 is definitely not boring. New design, even more computing power, which is very close to the latest MacBooks, improved cameras and a significant increase in autonomy. Focusing on those who really care about advanced features, we did not forget about practicality, paying attention to the cooling and charging speed of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. And what colors! Keep burning, Apple!

Many people have been waiting for the redesign of the iPhone Pro series, because even the 12 Pro Max from the 16 Pro Max is sometimes difficult to quickly distinguish visually, especially in the case. And now, the time for a complete transformation has come. The all-aluminum Unibody body is designed to reduce heat during long-term video recording and protracted missions in Death Stranding and other AAA games. The insert at the back that hides the MagSafe magnets is made of heavy–duty Ceramic Shield 2 glass - the same protects the smartphone screen (but it's still better to stick on the protective glass).

The A19 Pro chip is another breakthrough in performance. In everyday tasks, it is faster than the previous flagship A18 Pro by about 10%, but the graphics have improved much more: up to 40% increase. The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max have the most powerful version, with 6-core graphics and a full set of machine learning accelerators and neural networks. There is also 12 GB of RAM and thoughtful cooling: not only the aluminum housing removes heat, but also a sealed evaporation chamber made using laser soldering.

The screen of the iPhone 17 Pro Max has not undergone many changes compared to the previous generation, but there is practically nowhere to improve it. Incredibly thin bezels, 6.9 inches diagonal, 460 PPI pixel density and peak outdoor brightness are now up to 3,000 nits, and the new anti-glare coating further improves daytime readability. Of course, there is a dynamic refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, and excellent OLED contrast, while the front camera and auxiliary sensors are hidden behind a dynamic island, the functionality of which increases with each iOS update.

For a long time now, the iPhone Pro series has been more like a camera with a built-in smartphone, rather than the other way around. This time, a lot of improvements were also made on the camera. Not only have the Photonic Engine algorithms been updated, all three rear cameras of the iPhone 17 Pro Max are now 48-Megapixel, and the protrusion along the entire width of the backrest emphasizes the focus on shooting (and at the same time allows the smartphone to lie normally on the table without a case). The touch button "Camera Controller", introduced in the previous generation, is also in place.

In this generation, it's the turn of the telephoto camera upgrade again. Do you remember how recently the guys from Apple described the unique design of the iPhone 15 Pro Max periscope zoom camera for a long time and in all colors? Forget it, it's already outdated. Now the sensor has become larger, the resolution is higher, and the hybrid 8x optical zoom (cuts out the middle of the frame by analogy with 2X on the main camera), quadruple optical zoom and digital zoom up to 40x allow the iPhone 17 Pro Max to "see" further. This solution is also more practical for portraits.

The front camera has also improved. She received an enlarged sensor with a resolution of 18 megapixels. and Center Stage support, due to which it can keep you in the center of the frame during video calls, although not in all applications. Much more interesting is that the sensor has become square – to shoot vertical and horizontal videos, you no longer need to rotate the smartphone itself, and this is really brilliant! During group selfies, the chip will also be useful, making it guaranteed to fit everyone into the frame.

Videographers will be happy too. To support LOG, ProRes, DolbyVision and the ability to record 4K video at up to 120 frames per second, a new, even more professional format has been added: ProRes RAW. In addition, multiple smartphones can be synchronized during recording and create stunning effects. Is it difficult? Maybe, but imagine how much such a setup would cost if there were cameras instead of iPhones.… Well, for less epic projects, we've added another useful but enjoyable feature for bloggers: you can now record videos on both the front and main cameras simultaneously. By the way, you can hang an alternative shooting app on the Action Button.

Do you want to experiment with portraits and background blurring? It's easy, even when the frame has already been taken. And the photographic styles will also allow you to make the colors so that you like the pictures. Do you need a video of your four-legged friend setting another speed record on the playground? The "Action" mode is at your service! And even on vacation, you can safely shoot seagulls and crabs, because the iPhone 17 Pro Max is protected from dust and moisture and meets the IP68 class, withstanding immersion to a depth of six meters for 30 minutes (for fresh water). There are also movie effects, slow motion and other features – there are a lot of scenarios where they can be useful.

The focus on practicality in the iPhone 17 Pro Max is also felt in the autonomy. The smartphone's battery has noticeably increased in capacity compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max and provides up to 39 hours of video viewing. The increase in screen time, standby mode, and under heavy load is also appropriate. It is noteworthy that the versions without a physical SIM card slot (eSIM models) work a little longer, since such models have a battery with about 8% more capacity.

Just improving the autonomy is not enough. The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max charge faster too. The maximum wired charging capacity has increased to 40 watts: both smartphones can be charged up to 50% in just 20 minutes from the appropriate adapter. MagSafe with Qi2 support is not far behind: up to 25 watts (with a power source of at least 30 watts) and only 30 minutes to charge a fully discharged device to the same 50%. Thus, it is more than realistic to provide yourself with an extra half day of phone operation during a coffee break, and due to more efficient cooling, charging during use will have less effect on battery life.

Switching to the iPhone 17 Pro Max is also the best way to evaluate "liquid glass" and other iOS innovations, because it is simply impossible to evaluate an iPhone separately from its system. The whole Apple philosophy is that the device itself and its interface are one. The user experience is formed not from pixels and hertz "on paper", but from the device as a whole. Cloud services, the choice of applications, interaction with other Apple devices and accessories, and even the meticulous study of each interface icon are the very "drops" that fill the sea of pleasant impressions from any iPhone.
